On the occasion of World Immunization Week, celebrated in Morocco from April 22 to 26, 2024 under the theme “We love our children… Through vaccination, we protect them…”, the Dar Zhor Association organized a conference entitled:
“Act Now & Vaccinate Children Against HPV to Protect Their Future.”

The event brought together several health experts, including Dr. Mohammed Benazzouz, Head of Child Health Protection at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Prof. Mina Oumlil, Professor of Pediatrics, Dr. Hicham Taarji, Gynecologist, and Prof. Fadila Kouhen, Oncologist. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of vaccination in combating cervical cancer and other cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

This conference followed Dar Zhor’s broader awareness and information campaign on cervical cancer, emphasizing the urgency of the issue. Cervical cancer remains a major public health problem in Morocco, with more than 3,500 new cases each year and over 4 deaths per day.

Morocco has committed to eliminating cervical cancer as a public health issue by 2030, adopting ambitious targets, including:

  • Achieving at least 90% vaccination coverage with the HPV vaccine for girls at age 11

  • Ensuring 70% participation in cervical cancer screening with reliable tests

  • Guaranteeing that at least 90% of women diagnosed with cervical disease receive appropriate care
